6 tips to ace your internship

Internship

It is highly recommended and lately also mandatory in many university courses or high schools to carry out an internship. The internship is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and establish a network of acquaintances and socialize with people who may be your colleagues and employers in the future.

Below I will illustrate six tips to ace your internship:

1. Be proactive

Don’t wait for your supervisor to assign tasks to you. Take the initiative and approach your supervisor with ideas on how you can contribute to the team. This shows that you are willing to take responsibility and can be relied upon to complete tasks without being prompted.

2. Dress and behave appropriately

Dress appropriately because this also influences the people around you, so find out about the company culture and dress code required in the office.

In addition to how you dress, you must also pay attention to how you interact with other people, be humble, ask questions, and give thanks.
Keep your workstation nice and clean.

3. Get to know your colleagues

Making friends with colleagues will allow you to work in a healthy environment, where everyone helps each other.

4. Maintain a positive attitude

As Rachael Bozsik, CEO of The Brand Girls put it, “A victim mentality is the most common mistake I see with recent graduates and interns.”

Believing in yourself makes it easier for others to believe in you, even if initially something seems impossible to you, try to give 100% to be able to do it.

You have to be proactive, ask questions, offer solutions, make yourself useful by making a difference and be respectful of the roles. Feel free to ask for help from the tutor, but not without first asking Google and solving the issues independently.

5. Ask for feedback

Asking your supervisor for feedback on your performance is one way to show interest.
Keep yourself open to correction because there is always room for improvement.

6. Reflect on how the internship went and keep in touch with the company

In the closing part of the internship, ask for final feedback to understand what you have done well and improve, reflect on the skills acquired and update your curriculum with your experiences and results. Finally, keep in touch with the company, it could be helpful for a future job or recommendations.

Ask then for recommendations or appreciation letters.

7. Network

Your internship is a great opportunity to meet professionals in your field. Take advantage of this by attending company events, introducing yourself to colleagues, and asking for advice on your career goals.
