Phytocosmetics in Hungary: the Vagheggi case

Data are showing the growing importance of the natural and organic beauty market. The global market value for natural cosmetics and personal care expected a positive increase from almost 34.5 billion dollars in 2018 to roughly 54.5 billion dollars expected for 2027.

The awareness of consumers on the type of products purchased is growing over time. This is especially the case when it comes to personal consumer goods. In the specific case of cosmetics, an always more significant share of consumers tends to purchase natural and/or organic cosmetics.

Cosmetics are considered natural concerning two essential dimensions: ingredients and processing.

The phytocosmetic approach is the best answer to this need because it allows natural cosmetics to be formulated without sacrificing maximum effectiveness, which we can only achieve with the most innovative technologies. Phytocosmetics is developed from natural raw materials combined with pure plant molecules, extracted and stabilized, to act in a targeted manner on imperfections.

Share of cosmetics in the European market in 2019

The consumption of cosmetics and body care products shows the great success of the sector, which is estimated to be increasing year on year.

In Europe, the country with the highest consumption value is Germany with EUR 1,446 million. Italy is the fourth country in Europe with a consumption value of EUR 1,0558 million. Hungary, with a consumption value of EUR 816 million, ranks first in Central and Eastern Europe.
Increasingly popular among consumers is the trend to choose consumption of products of natural origin.

The Central and Eastern European scenario

Despite the limited results in the year 2020 for all products involved, the growth rate is expected to increase in the following years; in particular, the cosmetics market will increase in the period 2020-2025 by approximately 5%.

Phytocosmetics: how it develops and what its advantages are

To find out more, we turn directly to Vagheggi Hungary, one of the most important companies in the sector. Vagheggi stands out for two things: the quality of its raw materials and its sustainable and ethical approach to business

We asked our questions to Barbara Ács, operations director of Vagheggi Kft. -the Hungarian subsidiary of Vagheggi Phytocosmetics- who looks after the administration, logistics, and marketing of Vagheggi in Budapest for more than five years now.

In a few simple words, can you explain what is meant by phytocosmetics?

Phytocosmetics means using plant ingredients, modern phytocosmetics, which Vagheggi also uses, means using pure molecules, using a single active ingredient from the plant that will have a targeted effect on the skin, on the specific skin problem. A plant extract has a global impact, while a special ingredient extracted from the plant focuses on a particular problem.

What are Vagheggi’s main values and how have these been translated into your products?

Vagheggi is professional phytocosmetics, it is the choice of relying on natural active ingredients and the most advanced and performing formulation research. Vagheggi means controlling the entire supply chain to offer cosmetics that are guaranteed to be effective and natural. Vagheggi is a vision of universal beauty; it is respect and love for nature, which gives us so much, and we know we must give so much.

For 45 years, we have believed in the added value of beauty that draws its answers from natural active ingredients. For us, Phytocosmetics was the starting point, the genesis, the vision. We have become a reference point for Italian professional cosmetics, particularly in the field of phytocosmetics, because we have never changed our main objective: maximum formulation performance with natural raw materials; and, close collaboration with highly professional figures to meet any new challenge every day.

What do you think is the advantage of Vagheggi compared to other cosmetic lines?

Our main advantage in the Hungarian market is the high quality of our products. We don’t just sell products. We provide a service, training, know-how and all-round support to our customers, be they beauticians or end customers, to achieve perfect harmony. Beautiful inside, beautiful outside 😉

When it comes to products, more and more people are looking for natural products and companies that work in an environmentally friendly and fair-trade way. These values we follow from the very first moment, but fortunately, they are becoming more and more common ideas.

Our lines are also tested through instrumental and clinical in vivo testsin vitro testson the product and/or the active ingredients, which prove their extraordinary efficacy and dermatological and ophthalmological tests to ensure their safety for the health of our skin.

Which qualities or ingredients do you prioritise?

We continuously follow the latest research and innovations. We do continuous research in our laboratories to find the best solutions for every problem.

For us, everything starts with carefully selecting raw materials according to their geographical origin, the concentration of active ingredients, seasonality, and harvesting method.

In our cosmetics, you will find: lavender from Haute Provence harvested in June, citrus fruits from Sicily harvested in January, cold-pressed oils, althaea officinalis from organic cultivation, and then golden chamomile, resin crystals, amethyst, rice bran, black quinoa, and many other raw materialsall-natural, all effective

To ensure a measurable effect on the particular blemish, the plant extract is combined with active molecules purified from plants and used for their targeted functional impact. The purification of the active ingredient is effective because it enables a specific and controllable action. Our cosmetics are tested at every stage of the production flow to ensure consistency and reproducibility.
